Cameron Boozer has been turning the NBA Summer League into his own personal showcase, and on the biggest stage the exhibition circuit has to offer, the Grizzlies rookie found himself in the Summer League Championship game against the Golden State Warriors.
Boozer, the son of two-time NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer, has been one of the breakout performers in Las Vegas, according to HoopsHype’s Bobby Krivitsky. Alongside fellow standout Cedric Coward, Boozer helped make Memphis the betting favorite heading into the title matchup.
During the championship broadcast, Boozer sat down for a sideline interview that gave viewers a glimpse behind the jersey. He revealed that he is one minute older than his twin brother, Cayden, and that the No. 27 he wears traces back to his mother, who wore the same number in college.
Now that’s the kind of detail that tells you something about a kid. You don’t pick a number because of some marketing campaign or because it looks cool on social media. You pick it because somebody who raised you wore it first, and that means something in a locker room.
The Grizzlies’ Summer League run has been built on Boozer’s two-way impact and Coward’s scoring punch, a combination that carried Memphis through the tournament bracket and into the final as the odds-on favorite over a Warriors squad that had its own collection of young talent.

Highlights from the championship game showed Boozer doing what he’s done all July — attacking the rim, finishing through contact, and showing the kind of defensive instincts that made him one of the most talked-about prospects in the building.
The film doesn’t lie. Whatever the final score says, Boozer’s Summer League tape is the kind that makes a coaching staff feel pretty good about what’s coming down the road.
