The Red Sox beat the Blue Jays 6-4 on Friday night at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are now 24-6 in their last 30 games, rebounding from a loss Wednesday that ended a 15-game winning streak.
Anthony Seigler had his first career 4-hit game, leading off with a homer. Ceddanne Rafaela hit a 2-run HR in the 3rd that barely cleared the Green Monster, and Romy Gonzalez hit a go-ahead RBI double in the 8th inning. Andruw Monasterio added a sac fly in the 6th, and Andrés Giménez had a sac fly in the 8th.
On the mound, Patrick Sandoval pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing 0 runs, 5 hits, and striking out 3. Garrett Whitlock (6-1) got the win in relief, while CJ Van Eyk (0-1) took the loss. Aroldis Chapman earned his 24th save, his 391st career save, passing Dennis Eckersley for 9th all-time.
Kazuma Okamoto hit a 3-run blast in the 7th, his 23rd HR of the season, breaking Shohei Ohtani’s record for Japanese rookies (22 in 2018).
Combined with a Guardians loss to the Rays, the Red Sox took sole possession of the second AL wild card spot.
