Saturday night’s rainout at Yankee Stadium compressed what was already a marquee series into a single Sunday, giving fans 18 innings of Yankees-Dodgers baseball weather permitting across a split-admission doubleheader.
The makeup game is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. ET, followed by the regularly scheduled Sunday Night Baseball broadcast at 7:20 p.m. ET. Separate tickets are required for each game. Holders of paid tickets for Saturday’s postponed contest can use them for the early game or exchange them through the Yankees’ rain-check policy at yankees.com/raincheck.
The Dodgers took the series opener Friday, 2-1, and carry the best record in baseball at 62-36 into Sunday. The Yankees sit at 54-43, second-best in the American League. Since the 2024 World Series, Los Angeles is 7-2 against New York.
The early game features a pairing of 2026 All-Stars: Yoshinobu Yamamoto (9-6, 2.85 ERA) for the Dodgers against Cam Schlittler (9-5, 2.05 ERA) for the Yankees. Neither club has named a starter for the nightcap.
The pitching line looks elite on paper. The recent trend lines tell a different story. Yamamoto allowed six earned runs in his last start, tying the worst outing of his major-league career. He has also been a noticeably different pitcher under the lights a 3.30 ERA in night starts compared to an absurd 0.87 mark in day games. Schlittler, meanwhile, posted a 1.62 ERA across his first 17 starts before watching that number balloon to 4.34 over his last three. He has surrendered six home runs in those three outings, matching his total from the first 17 combined.
The betting market has the Dodgers as a slight -110 favorite, with the Yankees at -108 on the money line. The over/under sits at 8.5 runs. A projection model that simulates every MLB game 10,000 times and entered the All-Star break on a 33-21 run on top-rated picks is leaning toward the Over, projecting roughly 10 combined runs. One supporting data point: when the Yankees have been home underdogs since the start of last season, the Over has hit 73% of the time (8-3).
Beyond the pitching, the Yankees’ shortstop situation remains unresolved. Anthony Volpe gets the start in the opener, with Jose Caballero on the bench. Manager Aaron Boone described the competition as “day-to-day” and “a competitive situation,” noting that a left-handed starter on the mound could shift the equation. Volpe did not start Friday’s game coming out of the All-Star break and was not in Saturday’s original lineup before the rainout.
Boone also acknowledged the looming presence of top prospect George Lombard Jr., who could be promoted during the second half. “No secret how highly we feel of George,” Boone said, adding that his continued development is “pushing himself into the conversation.”
The doubleheader opens the second half for both clubs after the 2026 All-Star Game in Philadelphia, where Yankees Cody Bellinger, Ben Rice, and Schlittler all represented the organization at Citizens Bank Park.
