Hannah Rapp, a 26-year-old featherweight boxer who challenged for a WBC world title just last month, was struck and killed by a motorist while bicycling over the weekend in Brazos County, Texas.
According to local station KBTX, authorities allege that the driver, Charles Eric Medina, passed Rapp and a fellow cyclist, slammed on his brakes, then reversed his vehicle into Rapp. Medina has been charged with manslaughter.
The details are as chilling as they are brief. A driver passes two cyclists, stops, and backs into one of them. The affidavit, as described by KBTX, frames it as an intentional act — not a distracted-driving tragedy, not a blind-spot accident. A 26-year-old professional fighter who spent her evenings preparing for the biggest nights in women’s boxing was killed on a Texas road by someone who, police say, chose to reverse into her.
Rapp, who fought under the nickname “Hanarchy,” made her professional debut in 2024 and compiled an 8-1-1 record while splitting her time between the U.S. and Mexican boxing circuits. That mark earned her a shot at Tiara Brown’s WBC featherweight title on Most Valuable Promotions’ fourth all-women card last month. Rapp lost on the cards but gave a credible account of herself against a reigning champion — a remarkable ascent for someone who had only picked up the sport five years earlier.
She did it while holding down a full-time job at Texas A&M. No major promotional machinery funneling her into contender status, no years of amateur pedigree cushioning the jump. She worked, she trained, she fought, and in roughly 18 months as a pro she reached a world-title fight. Brown, the WBC featherweight champion who shared the ring with Rapp in June, had not yet publicly commented at the time of reporting. MVP, which promoted the card, has not issued a statement.
