Tom Brady — seven rings, future Hall of Famer, current Raiders minority owner, FOX analyst, and a man who apparently hasn’t met a side hustle he wouldn’t chase into the ground — slapped Logan Paul on stage Friday at Fanatics Fan Fest 2026 in New York City. Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns, fresh off his first NBA championship, stood between them and had to step in before things escalated further.
The three shared a stage during the four-day fan convention. Brady and Paul weren’t mic’d up, but body language told the story — jaws working, chests out, the kind of staredown that used to happen at the bottom of a pile before the refs pulled bodies off. Then Brady’s hand connected with Paul’s face. Towns, all seven feet of him, inserted himself between the two. The trash talk kept going after the separation, per Yahoo Sports.
Brady took to social media later Friday evening and called Paul a “dork.”
Here’s where you smell the fix: 24 hours earlier, Brady sat down with WWE superstar Cody Rhodes for a live taping of Rhodes’ “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast at the same Fanatics Fest. Brady told Rhodes he wants in the ring.
“I need to get an invite,” Brady said, via CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri. “I’ve been waiting for [WWE president] Nick Khan to come up with some storyline for me to get in the mix. I feel like I’m retired from football, and I have an opportunity to go out there and still showcase that I’m a little bit of an athlete. My boy Gronk’s done it. I’ve seen obviously Logan Paul do it. I think I can get in there for at least one match.”
So the greatest quarterback who ever lived tees up a WWE storyline on Thursday, slaps the WWE guy on Friday, and we’re supposed to believe this was spontaneous? That’s not a beef, pal. That’s a sales pitch with contact lens-level subtlety.
The Brady-Paul history is real enough, or at least well-documented. It started with podcast barbs — Brady called Paul’s wrestling career “cute” and questioned whether the former YouTuber had the toughness for the NFL. Brady joked that he instigated Paul’s fight with former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell. Then in March, during a Fanatics Flag Football Classic, Brady deliberately threw a ball at Paul and the two nearly came to blows on the field.
Whether any of that was genuine or cooked up for cameras is anyone’s guess. Friday’s slap, though, had all the fingerprints of a work — pro wrestling’s kayfabe tradition of blurring the line between real and staged to build a storyline.
Yahoo Sports’ wrestling desk laid out the playbook: Paul cuts a promo on WWE Raw challenging Brady, Brady responds via video, and the two could square off by proxy at SummerSlam next month — Paul’s faction against wrestlers Brady hand-picks — before building toward an actual match at WrestleMania 43 next spring.
Don’t hold your breath for Brady vs. Paul in the ring anytime soon, though. Paul is currently recovering from a torn triceps suffered May 23, and may not wrestle again this year. Brady, 48, has no pro wrestling training and would need time to get up to speed — though if you’ve watched the man for three decades, you know he doesn’t do anything halfway.
For now, the slap is the headline. Towns playing referee is the subplot. And the WWE match is the carrot dangling in front of everyone who clicked on the video.
One Reddit commenter, speaking for a certain segment of American sports fans, cut through the noise: “Brady has the lamest post retirement arc of any GOAT.”
The man won seven Super Bowls. Now he’s slapping influencers at a fan convention and angling for a wrestling paycheck. You tell me if that’s an upgrade.
